The first version of Diss Never which appears on this disc does not appear on commercial releases of Blowback. It is an alternate version of the song, with Alanis Morissette on vocals rather than Hawkman, a thicker sound which is similar to the regular Diss Never, and a set of entirely different lyrics from the song that appears on commercial copies of the album. Meanwhile, the second version of Diss Never, which appears as the last track on this disc, shows up on regular copies of the album in the tracklist position of the first Diss Never. In the second Diss Never's place on regular releases of Blowback is a song which is left out entirely from this Canadian promo copy - A Song for Yukiko.
Although A Song for Yukiko is missing from this copy of the album, it appears that it might have meant to have shown up, but was accidentally forgotten. Both the cover and the disc give a tracktime of 7:33 for the last track on this disc. However, that track is only 2:50 in reality. However, on an early acetate of Blowback [No Cat#], A Song for Yukiko appears as a hidden track at the end of the last song (also Diss Never (Dig up we History) on that release), giving the last track a total length of 7:33.

It is possible, but not terribly likely, that this is a fake. The information provided on the covers and disc are as basic as it gets, so none of that helps us know whether or not this is indeed a false copy. However, there are some grounds for believing that it could be legitimate. The first version of Diss Never which appears on this disc is a track that can only otherwise be found on the Canadian promo CD of Blowback [UMCF-4405-2]. If this is a fake, that means that the person who made it must have had that Canadian promo, or access to the track in some other way (perhaps a pre-release which is unknown to me). Also, they would have to have a regular copy of Blowback (either promotional or commercial) besides the Canadian promo CD, since A Song for Yukiko (listed as Japanese Track on the covers of this release) was not featured on the Canadian promo. All this is very possible, but a bit unlikely.
The final track on this disc (listed as Japanese Track) is featured on regular releases of Blowback, but it is called A Song for Yukiko. On this CD-R acetate, it comes after 35 seconds of silence following Diss Never (Dig up we History).
A number of track names on this CD-R acetate are earlier titles that the songs had, before Blowback was released commercially. Wonder Woman became #1 Da Woman, Give it to Them became Give it to 'em, and Japanese Track became A Song for Yukiko. The first version of Diss Never (Track 8) was dropped entirely from all commercial, and most promotional releases of Blowback. |
